It is gratifying to be recognized as industry leaders in luxury villa travel by the likes of Travel & Leisure, Forbes, Architectural Digest, Virtuoso Life, Traditional Home, the Wall Street Journal, CNN and the New York Times among many others.
Established in 1990, Hosted Villas was the first company to offer high-end, fully hosted villa vacations, specifically for North America travelers. It all began as a Butterfield & Robinson programme in the early 90’s, when they decided to run some of their classic European cycling programs based out of two private chateaux. The positive response to this style of trip was compelling, and indicated that there was a gap in the industry that could be filled by providing a fully hosted, luxury villa experience for travelers who did not want to get on a bike every day. And so, our broader luxury villa experience was born under the Homes Away brand.
We started small - in our first season we featured 10 properties in three regions of France and had just four Local Hosts. In 1995 we added the always popular destination of Italy and in 2000 we moved into Spain. In 2007 we rebranded the business as Hosted Villas and today, we are working with 100+ properties throughout nine regions in four countries in Europe, and have a European team of approximately 30 Local Hosts.
Since then, we have planned countless trips in some of Europe's most authentic and beautiful regions, and have worked diligently to ensure that each of our guests experience the unique and completely customized villa vacation of their dreams. Our effort has been rewarded with media and industry acclaim across various platforms and we are fiercely proud of this recognition, while simultaneously understanding that there is always more work to be done.
